Amity Farm Batik

Carol Law Conklin is a batik artist living and working out of Washington County, New York. Nature, the seasons, cycles, mythological and primordial themes were and still are Carol’s inspiration. Carol and her husband Richard owned a Jersey cow dairy for 28 years at the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains which provided many beautiful images for her batik artwork. A new category of art has been inspired by the land and the animals: Farmscapes.I have created potholders, tablet sleeves, scarves, trivets, prints, fabric swatches, cards, pillows, gifts, mouse pads and prints of my batik, and I also sell my original batik, which is either as a wall hanging or as a framed piece of art. Bartlett Yarns Inc

Sitting along the banks of the Higgins Stream in Harmony, ME is a vintage mill building that holds the last remaining working spinning mule in the USA. Started in 1821 by Ozias Bartlett, it continues to produce beautiful yarns in 2 ply, 3 ply, sport, rug and bulky weights in over 60 colors. We also offer rovings, blankets and knitwear!

Bartlettyarns prides itself on working with farmers, both to purchase wool and to custom process wool. Our retail booth will be set up inside the gates and our custom processing/purchasing booth is located just outside of the gate for easy convenience.

The principle of the mule is to duplicate the motion of a hand spinner. In hand spinning, the spinner's hand moves to and from the tip of a spinning bobbin. Raw wool fibers are snagged onto the end of the bobbin and are drawn and spun between the tip of the bobbin and the spinner's fingertips. In mule spinning, a carriage contains a row of bobbins, moves back and forth, simultaneously drawing and spinning a six foot length of carded roving attached to each bobbin. At Bartlettyarns, we spin 240 bobbins at a... Read more
