Shawl Pins: 3 Ways with Wirecore
Limited Capacity seats available

Shawl pins are a personal expression and an extension of the long hours it takes us to complete our handwork.

This workshop will focus on three different traditional pin styles in recycled copper that offer very different closure options.  We will embellish our recycled copper base pins with flexible handspun wirecore yarn for a colorful accent. The humble shawl stick, the versatile fibula (a safety pin style,) and the graceful penannular brooch (a circular shape with a small break in it) will all be explored.

Light hammering, texturing, and forming with the addition of handspun yarn and a simple aged patina will be combined to create custom pins to secure everything from the most delicate lace to the coziest bulky shawl.

Level of experience: none

Materials Provided by Instructor: all materials and  tools for students use - recycled copper wire in various gauges, various found objects, beads, and other materials for accents

Materials Provided by StudentOPTIONAL: any special beads or found objects you may want to incorporate. not all will be able to be used but we can do our best to problem solve!

Homework: none

This class will be held in "Joseph's" which is across from Bld D tents.

Emily can be reached for questions by emailing  bricolagestudios@gmail.com

Spend one hour with the queen of the quick and the cheap and you could go home with a closure for a cardigan or shawl, a holiday ornament, a bracelet, a keychain….and way more.
After a quick introduction to the materials, ergonomic tool use and surface treatment, students are welcome to go in any direction they like.  With the exception of the polished hardened steel hammering block, all tools are easily obtained at a hardware store or supermarket so you may keep going without a big investment.
